My Influences
The cover of Joy Division's “Substance” albums my favorite album cover of all times---and that’s not even talking about “Unknown Pleasures” and "Closer". Obviously I also love the band. The designer of the cover is Peter Saville. The funny thing is, I didn’t discover who he was until six years after I purchased the album.
I love the cleanliness and the synchronicity of Saville’s work.He expresses so much with so little, but what is there is brilliant and impeccably displayed.
In addition to the impressive projects he directed with Pentagram, I admire Bierut’s communicative capacity. He is a model of not only inventive graphic style but also of how it should be sold. Vignelli is arguably the most important Italian graphic designer in the United States. His New York subway signs and American Airlines branding do us proud. As one of the most creative, audacious and “crazy” European designers, Sagmeister’s style is very different than my own, which is probably why I find it so enchanting.
